Miscellaneous

During my free time, I enjoy playing badminton, pickleball, singing (J-pop, Western, and of course local ones) and previewing CMU’s 16-831 🤓. I am also a bit of an Otaku or Weeaboo, whatever you call it.

Music

For J-pop, in addition to YOASOBI that everyone knows, my other favorite artists include but are not limited to Vaundy, Aimyon, Ado, RADWIMPS, and King Gnu.

For Western, I like artists such as Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Charlie Puth, and Linkin Park.

Anime

As an amateur Otaku, of course I have watched some anime, including AOT, Haikyu!!, Spy × Family, Frieren, JJK, Demon Slayer, Blue Lock, Tokyo Ghoul, Dr. Stone, Fire Force, Hell’s Paradise, Dandadan, and Record of Ragnarok.

TV series

I think HIMYM is the only one that I finished and rewatched afterward. I have also watched some Modern Family, TBBT, and Brooklyn 99.

Some fun facts about me

  1. I started working (internship) on the day I arrived in the US and found housing on the same day.
  2. My Japanese co-worker said I know so much J-pop because I can name some songs just from hearing the intro.

  3. I spent some time searching for the MBTI types of anime characters I’m interested in and ran some statistics (n = 35). Here’s the result:

  4. I have taken graduate examinations in full Japanese, and was admitted to Tohoku University, but declined the offer as the assigned lab wasn’t the right fit for my robotics interests.
  5. During the examination, I stayed in Japan for 1 month, starting from Kyoto, Tokyo, then Sendai. It felt like I was on a similar journey to the protagonist in Suzume.
  6. When I first went to the Tohoku area in Japan, I boarded the wrong half of a splitting bullet train and ended up heading toward Aomori instead of Akita. 🫠
  7. I once got reported to my university’s Gender Equity Committee for a post with a slanted ice cream image — I was cleared, of course. The story even made it into graduation songs twice. :)
  8. When I was in Taiwan, I occasionally went to Japanese karaoke with my friends. 🎵 (I can also do some RAP 😎)
  9. I tried to grow my hair long but found it doesn’t suit me. 🤣
